IVF is an ordinary miracle!
It's no secret that a lot of couples are trying to conceive a child for a long time, but their efforts did not bring the expected result. Pregnancy can fail for many reasons.
However, we live in the XXI century, and the diagnosis of «infertility» no longer sounds like a final verdict. With early diagnosis and proper treatment in the family, you may receive a long-awaited baby. In the case where a woman can not conceive naturally, the so-called «assisted reproductive technology» can aid.
Today one of the most effective treatments for infertility is IVF (in vitro fertilization)) – extracorporal fertilization. However, many couples do not know what this method constitutes, whether it is safe for health and how the procedure goes. The word "extra" (from the Latin extra) means "beyond" or "outside"; corporal (from the Latin corpus) - "body". That is, using IVF method, conception occurs outside the woman's body. The merger of male sperm and a female egg occurs «in vitro», meaning "in glass", "in a test tube." After a successful fertilization, some time later, the embryo is transferred into the woman's uterus, where it develops in the future for forty weeks.
A natural question arises - when is IVF used?
In vitro fertilization is used when egg and sperm cannot "find each other" in the natural environment due to, for example, sperm obstruction in the fallopian tubes. However, woman's body is able to make a healthy baby.
The most important is to remember that children who are born as a result of IVF are the same as those who are born with natural conception. They just helped these children a little. A method of conception does not affect the development of the baby.
The process of "ordinary miracle" takes place in several stages
First stage. Preparatory. Stimulation of ovulation.
Please be aware that during normal ovulation in women only one or two eggs mature per month, and during stimulation the number of mature eggs increases. Driving stimulation, type and dosage of the drug is prescribed in each individual case on the basis of the survey results. The entire stage takes place under close medical supervision.
Second stage. Extract (puncture) of follicles.
This step comes after the follicles matured and were ready to meet with their "other half." The oocytes received are placed in a special nutrient medium, where they stay up to the meeting with sperm. In parallel with the puncture of the follicles sperm of the future father is taken. Sperm also undergoes the preparatory treatment.
Third stage. Fertilization.
Experts-embryologists "arrange a meeting" of the egg and sperm, which results in conception. The fertilized egg is placed in a special incubator. The whole process - from "A to Z" - takes place under the supervision of specialists, who are closely watching the development of the embryo. After some time (3-5 days), the embryo is ready to move in a natural environment - the uterus.
Fourth stage. Embryo transfer.
The embryo is transferred into the uterus after 3-5 days after the fertilization using a special catheter. The process of transfer is completely safe and painless, and in any case cannot hurt the child and the mother. Speaking about the number of embryos transferred into the woman's uterus, they are usually not more than two. The next step of this phase is a maintenance therapy that promotes pregnancy. After 2 weeks trough the blood test it is necessary to determine whether it occurred. If the result is positive - congratulations, you are pregnant! Further the pregnancy goes in usual way as at natural conception.
Future moms and dads! Pregnancy occurs not always on the first try. IVF method is quite complex, and if pregnancy has not occurred, you should not despair. The conception of the child, as experience shows, can occur on the second and the third, and even fifth try. The main thing is to be patient and trust that ordinary miracle will happen!
